Georgia was founded in 1928 by Dr.
H.J. Pierce to provide exemplary secondary education for young women. Its
program helps foster growth of an open and inquiring mind and to prepare the
students for college. Since its inception more than 75 years ago,
Brenau
Academy
has been educating students from around the
U.S. and across the globe. The
53-acre campus is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains and the
shore of
Lake
Lanier,
which is
Georgia’s
largest lake.
Brenau
Academy’s curriculum can be describes as
traditional and college preparatory. The academic program provides courses that
support entry into and success in the colleges of the students’ choice.
Elective courses are planned to stimulate and encourage students’ artistic
means of expression while continuing the heritage of Brenau in the performing
arts. Standardized testing is used to measure student progress against the
population. Small classes, an outstanding student/ teacher ratio, thought
provoking lessons, and a supporting and nurturing environment both in and
outside the classroom build self-confidence and leadership skills, ensuring
that students graduate with a foundation on which they can build successful
future.
Brenau
Academy also provides intramural and
interscholastic programs, with varsity teams for various sports. Facilities
include a gymnasium with walking track, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an
aerobic equipment room, four dance studios, classrooms, lockers and shower
facilities.
Brenau
Academy’s boarding experience cannot be experienced
in a traditional day school, as it can sometimes be akin to life in a unified
sorority house. Different activities such as popcorn in dorms, informal and
formal dances, sunbathing and others build memories, which also allow students
to learn how to get along and live independently.
