What developments take place in a 15 year old boys behavior as time passes?
As a boy reaches an age of 15, there are some developments which he notices like biological development, cognitive development and social development. He begins to realize the importance of relationships of friends and family and importance of culture. Starting with biological development, the first thing that a boy notices is puberty. Puberty is a period in which rapid physical growth and psychological changes occur culminating in sexual maturity. The most significant parts of pubertal development involve physiological changes in individuals’ height, body and weight. Such changes are influenced by hormonal activity. During puberty period, facial hair appears in kids. Between 14 to 16 years of age, first facial appear on the upper corner of the lips. The brain also goes through a development process.
Then cognitive development takes place in a 15 year old boy’s behavior. By the time a boy reaches the age of 15, his basic thinking abilities are almost that of adults. There is an improvement in selective attention in which one focuses on one stimulus while tuning out another. There is improvement in both working memory and long-term memory. The ability to think quickly also develops in a boy and thus his decision making ability is improved. Risk taking behavior also develops in a boy at that time which includes car crashes, alcohol and etc.
Social development takes place which is the time when teens form their personal identities. A 15 year old boy can now think of long term possibilities and consequences of their choices. The boy then realizes the concept of self-esteem which refers to one’s thoughts about one’s self concept and identity.
